LA LOINGTAINE
PUBLISHING
Based near Fontainebleau, France, La Loingtaine is an independent publishing house established on an international background in Kyoto in 2018.
La Loingtaine Publishing issues high quality books in multiple languages, including non-European languages and scripts. As an academic press, our publications promote the interdependence between art, cultural knowledge and science, contributing to a deeper understanding of the insights we need to meet the challenges of today.
Drawing on the resources of an extensive international network of scholars and public intellectuals, our books feature significant contributions to discursive reasoning, and reflect long traditions of research and reflection, in Western and non-Western contexts.
Our goal is to publish works of non-fiction that highlight fields of enquiry and paradigms of knowledge that only infrequently are represented in the mainstream publishing programme of international publishers.
To achieve this goal, we disseminate ground-breaking research by providing comprehensive editorial support and technical assistance for the realization of high-quality illustrated publications in various formats. Working with insightful scholars of significant experience and extensive research within their fields, we aim to bring into public discourse significant new content related to ecology, environmental issues, landscapes, architecture, gardens and cultural knowledge.
Our publications serve as handbooks for emerging fields of study and as references for curriculum development in the field of cultural heritage research.

CURRENT NEWS
We are delighted to finally be able to release our first printed volume – ‘SAMOA’S ICONIC
FALE: How Culture Informs Architecture’ by La‘auli Peter Higginson and Philippe Lair.
The book not only is the result of years of information-gathering and research by the authors but also of a long process of checking and elaborating the collected material into a coherent and up-to-date monograph on Samoan traditional architecture and its meaning in contemporary society. The book’s detailed description of the most important manifestation of Samoan heritage – the Faletele and Faleafolau, will be a key reference for anyone interested in Samoan and Pacific culture.
We believe, however, that beyond Samoa and its readers, the book will find a global audience of academics and laymen interested in the traditional dwellings and their manifestations of a society’s beliefs and values – the interdependence between intangible and tangible aspects of a culture.
To celebrate the occasion we organized a small book reception at La Loingtaine the 19 Nov. 2023. Etienne Clément, Director for UNESCO’s Pacific Office in Samoa 2013-2015, gave a small introduction to the book, which you can find under the review section ‘What others say’ below.
If you are interested in buying the book, in writing a review or have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will love to hear from you.
In the meantime, we are working with new and exciting projects.
